Noel Dempsey is the Irish Minister for Education and Science. He was born in Trim, Co. Meath in January 1953 and educated at St. Michael's CBS, Trim, University College Dublin; and St. Patrick's College, Maynooth obtaining a BA and Higher Diploma in Education. He also obtained a Diploma in Career Guidance and a Diploma in Youth Leadership.

Minister Dempsey has been a member of the Dáil / Parliament since 1987. He was Minister for the Environment and Local Government from 27 June 1997 to 5 June 2002, Fianna Fail Spokesman on the Environment 1994-1997, Government Chief Whip, 1992-1994, Minister of State in the Departments of An Taoiseach, Defence and Finance 1992-1994. Minister Dempsey is also a former member of Meath County Council 1977-1992 (Chairman: 1986/1987), Trim Urban District Council, and Meath Vocational Education Committee.
