Ireland's Presidency of the European Union
Conference on ICT in Education

As part of Ireland's Presidency programme, The Department of Education & Science, in collaboration with Media Lab Europe, held a conference on ICT in education - "New Futures for Learning in the Digital Age".

The conference, which took place at the Headquarters of Media Lab Europe in Dublin on 17th and 18th May 2004, focussed on the potential of digital technologies to transform and enhance the learning experience and on identifying the challenges and opportunities for policy makers and those who deliver education to develop and exploit this potential

Key topics examined during the Conference include

National and European strategies for fostering e-learning in schools and communities,

Learning in a digital environment

- exemplars of good practice

- addressing skills needs

- perspectives on future schooling and learning,

Promoting leadership in ICT-led change in schools and communities, and

Widening access to e-learning opportunities.

The Conference was attended by Education Policy Makers and Administrators; Curriculum Experts; Researchers; Teachers; the Digital Media and ICT industries.
